Dear Hevre,

We have understandably been focused on the recent mid-term elections here in the United States. Many of us also have questions and concerns about what's going to happen as the new government in Israel forms and takes office, likely in the days or weeks ahead. Several progressive Zionist organizations and their leaders expressed grave concerns about the likelihood of far-right, anti-democratic, ultra-nationalist, racist and homophobic political parties and leaders being part of the new governing coalition.

Today a statement from Reconstructing Judaism and the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association was published.

As many of you know, I am a member of T'ruah: the Rabbinic Call for Human Rights, whose core values include supporting Israeli democracy, civil rights, and the pursuit of a just and lasting Israeli-Palestinian peace.

Here is their statement from earlier this month:

Just as we move into Shabbat, cultivating inner peace, we pray that our country and Israel continue to pursue paths toward peaceful solutions to messy conflicts within both nations. May our renewed energy help in these efforts.

I look forward to seeing you at 7:00 pm on Zoom this evening and at 10:00 am tomorrow morning on Zoom for Contemplative Shabbat.

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Diana
