Dear Hevre,

We have finished the whole fall holiday cycle with great attendance in person and on Zoom. Thank you again to all those who prepared, organized and participated in every aspect of the high holidays. It takes a village, and we have a special one at the Little Shul.

We are back to Breishit, to Genesis, in our weekly Torah portion. It is in this week’s parshah that we read that humanity is created b’tzelem Elohim, in the Divine image.  Each person has dignity, no matter their background, skin color, faith or no faith, or whom they love.

POWER, the interfaith group dedicated to racial, economic and educational justice in Pennsylvania, is holding a “Freedom Express” bus tour across the State of Pennsylvania October 18th – November 4th, 2022 . This tour is about restoring faith in democracy, helping people imagine a Pennsylvania where we all thrive, and calling out the bad actors financing oppression by supporting white Christian nationalist causes.

I co-organized the Bucks County stop which was geared toward local clergy this morning in Levittown. We heard Rabbi Mordechai Liebling and Rev. Angela Brown-Vann speak about how antisemitism is at the core of the white Christian nationalist belief system and how our democracy is at risk. Their take-home action was for each of us to vote our values and help others to do the same.

This evening I will speak -inspired by Rabbi Liebling’s words- about these issues and how they are connected to humanity being created b’tzelem Elohim.

In this new year, may we partner with the Divine and continue to help create a world where all are valued.

I look forward to seeing you this evening at KHN or on Zoom at:
