ear Hevre,

This evening, our speaker Veronica Laputska will speak BEFORE we have our shortened services so please come inside or on Zoom before 7:00 pm so that you can be there for the beginning of the program. Unless you are coming in person, please register beforehand at:

What a strange week. We see spectacular, mind-blowing images from space that bring us like a time-machine back closer to the origins and at the same time we learn about decisions in our government which could further the devastation of our life here on Earth.

To be filled with such awe for what is out there, and how it all began, and then to be reminded of our vulnerability, the Earth’s vulnerability in the face of climate disaster. To think about how humans can create incredible mechanisms for understanding existence and how humans-through greed or short-sightedness- can destroy possibilities for healthy living for all creatures.

It’s all a lot.  Sometimes it all feels like too much, overwhelming. We need to return to our experience of this moment, pay attention to the food we are eating, bless the beauty that remains around us in nature, in art, bask in the presence of those we love. Rest.

We can recharge, refocus and discern where we’d like to put our energies to keep moving the world according to our vision and values in the ways that we know how.

I will be taking some precious time to reflect, rest, and rejuvenate from July 18 – August 18. There will be layleaders each Friday evening, detailed in the e-bulletin. In case of an emergency, I will have rabbinic back-up. Details will be on my outgoing phone message and my email settings. Additionally, KHN president Lynne Goldman and Joe Lewis will have contact information.

I will look forward to connecting with you upon my return. In the meantime, I hope that everybody has a sweet Shabbat. I look forward to seeing some of you this evening in person and some of you on Zoom.

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Diana
