Dear Hevre,

As a community, this will be the first time that we are joining together in person (with Zoom access) where we will be mask-optional. There will even be an Oneg! Some of us are more than ready for this option, and some of us are not ready.

We have been isolated from socializing without masks for two years and we may carry some anxiety, both physically (of possible transmission) and socially (anxiety and readjustment.)

In this week’s Torah portion, parshat Metzora, we learn about a ritual for purifying a metzora, an Israelite stricken with a skin disease who is required to dwell outside the Israelite camp until the affliction has passed. We can imagine that the metzora has felt isolated and may have some complicated feelings about returning to the community after meeting with the priest and going through the purification ritual.

Let us have rachmones (compassion) on ourselves and each other as we take steps into this new reality of returning to our community in person. If you have your shots and your booster, feel free to come with no mask. If you are not vaccinated, please come on Zoom or wear a mask. Also, please wear a mask if it makes you feel safer even if you are vaccinated. We take these next steps together.

I look forward to seeing you in person or on Zoom at 7:00 pm this evening. The Zoom link is:

Please remember to register for the KHN Passover Community Seder which will be on Zoom the second evening of Pesach at 6:00 pm. The information is in the e-bulletin.

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Diana
