Winter has arrived (if not officially by calendar than at least in feeling). The sky is overcast and the days are noticeably shorter. For me, this time of year brings with it mixed feelings. I miss the sunshine, but I love the excuse to stay indoors and be cozy. I both miss the fall holidays and love the break from the intense High Holy Day season. But mostly around this time of year, with everything seemingly about Christmas, I really start to feel like a fish out of water.
And that's why we have community, and Jewish community at that. My feelings of isolation and sadness in the winter are best cured in community. And when the Christmas holiday music breaks out, it also means the celebration of Hanukkah is almost here.
Even before the Festival of Lights arrives (this year on December 14th), we have many occasions to celebrate being together at Kehilat HaNahar.
If you have young ones please join us tonight for a special Tots & Kids service at 5:30 p.m. followed by our Friday night services at 7 p.m.
Saturday morning is our December Shabbat Zimra at 10 a.m. and Sunday is Shul School at 10 a.m.
Then we have some great Hanukkah programming to watch out for both at KHN and around town:
This upcoming Wednesday, December 10th we are hosting a Hanukkah children's program at Lambertville Public Library, 6 Lilly Street, 4 p.m. -5:15 p.m. There will be a Hanukkah story and craft for everyone. Space is limited, so please register here: KHN Hanukkah at Lambertville Public Library
Then on Sunday, December 14 we kick off the first night of Hanukkah with a Tots & Kids program at 5:30 p.m. followed by a community candle lighting, latkes, and more celebrating at 6 p.m.
And finally, on December 21, join us for two celebrations with the greater Bucks County community.Join KHN & Temple Judea in a Hanukkah celebration in Doylestown at 1 p.m. and then join us for a candle lighting at the New Hope Visitor's Center at 5:30 p.m.
Maybe you're not affected by the winter this way, but if you are, you don't need to fight the winter blues alone.
I look forward to celebrating with you this month.
Shabbat Shalom,
