An egalitarian home for your Jewish community.

Our Staff

Kehilat HaNahar has a small team of dedicated employees, from our rabbi and education director to our rabbinic intern, office administrator, and bookkeeper.

Led by our Rabbi, Kehilat HaNahar hires only the best and brightest talent to deliver the highest quality service to our members. Our staff, which we consider "a family," is committed to excellence.  In addition to Rabbi Diana and Education Director Rabbi Jonah Rank, our professional staff includes Stephanie Breitsman, Rabbinic Intern,  Joe Lewin, Office Administrator, and Lina Avalone, Bookkeeper.

Stephanie Breitsman, Rabbinic Intern, is a Jew-by-choice, a spiritual seeker, an artist and a casual gamer. Raised in a secular family of Christian origins, she unexpectedly found her home in the American Jewish community when she befriended her college's Hillel president in the campus garden. Steph is currently a rabbinic student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. She is passionate about Torah, ritual and prayer, and experimenting with ways to make them meaningful in our daily lives. She is currently exploring the intersection of creative practice, spirituality, and Judaism through her printmaking. She firmly believes that there is no one-size-fits-all way to be Jewish, and in her rabbinate she hopes to help people find their own personal ways to relate to Jewish texts, traditions, and practices. Prior to starting at RRC, Steph worked for three years with Americans for Peace Now, an American-Jewish nonprofit advocating for the end of the Israeli occupation and a two-state solution. She received her Master's degree in Middle East Studies from George Washington University. She lives in West Philly with her partner, Jeff, and their angelic, mischievous, and scruffy dog Gus.

Joe Lewin has been the Office Administrator at Kehilat HaNahar since 2016. Prior to coming to KHN, Joe served as the temporary office manager at Congregation Beth El in Yardley, where his wife is the Education and Youth Director. He also worked as an interim office manager at Adath Israel Congregation in Lawrenceville, NJ. Prior to entering synagogue office management, Joe spent nearly two decades as a sports reporter, copy editor, and page designer at The TImes of Trenton. He started at The TImes during his junior year of college at Trenton State College where he earned a BA in English/Journalism.  He currently lives in Lawrenceville with his wife, Karen, son, Charlie and cat, Wonder.

Lina Avallone has been the bookkeeper at KHN for the last five years and runs her own bookkeeping business.
