Shabbat Services

Shabbat at Kehilat HaNahar is a meaningful experience and continue to be so now that services are conducted virtually.  On Friday evenings, the congregation and our welcomed visitors join in worship and song. Shabbat Zimra Shaharit services (singing, Torah readings, discussion) are held on Saturdays once a month, followed by a dairy potluck when we're able to meet in person. We welcome people to help lead and participate in services and provide teaching to interested members.

Friday nights, Kabbalat Shabbat Services, except for the monthly Community Service, begin at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by an Oneg when we meet in person. The Community Service, or Mishpacha (family) Service, begins at 6:15 p.m. with a dairy potluck followed by a family-friendly (and adult-friendly) service from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. It is also followed by an Oneg. Click here to sign-up to sponsor an Oneg.

When there is a bar or bat mitzvah, Shabbat morning (Shaharit) services (generally) begin at 9:30 a.m. Some families opt for an afternoon (Mincha) service. We also hold occasional Havdalah services at KHN or at members' homes. Please see our calendar for dates.

Non-members are always welcome to join us for Shabbat services.

Several times a year, congregants open up their homes to other members on Shabbat. Meals are enjoyed together with the traditional blessings over candles, wine, and challah, and then all participants meet at Kehilat HaNahar for Shabbat services.

Contemplative Shabbat

A few times a year we meet on a Shabbat morning for chanting in Hebrew, meditation, and studying Torah in a format that asks us to make connections between our own spiritual lives and the Torah portion of the week in a small group setting.
