Shabbat

Shabbat at Kehilat HaNahar is a meaningful experience and continues to be so now that services are conducted virtually.  On Friday evenings, the congregation and our welcomed visitors join in worship and song.

Friday nights, Kabbalat Shabbat Services, except for the monthly Community Service, begin at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by an Oneg when we meet in person. The Community Service, or Mishpacha (family) Service, begins at 6:15 p.m. with a dairy potluck followed by a family-friendly (and adult-friendly) service from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. It is also followed by an Oneg.  During the Shul School season, we hold a monthly half hour mini-Kabbalat Shabbat service from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m to familiarize our students with Erev Shabbat prayers.

When there is a bar or bat mitzvah, Shabbat morning (Shaharit) services generally begin at 9:30 a.m. Some families opt for an afternoon (Mincha) service. We also hold occasional Havdalah services at KHN or at members' homes. Shabbat Zimra Shaharit services (singing, Torah readings, discussion) are at held once a month, followed by a dairy potluck when we're able to meet in person. Non-members are always welcome to join us for Shabbat services.

Please see our calendar for dates.

Contemplative Shabbat
A few times a year we meet on a Shabbat morning for chanting in Hebrew, meditation, and studying Torah in a format that asks us to make connections between our own spiritual lives and the Torah portion of the week in a small group setting.
