Adult Education

At Kehilat HaNahar, we implement programs designed to educate the KHN community and beyond in the key areas of Jewish history, art, music, culture, and Israeli affairs as the latter impacts the American Jewish community.  By bringing these added-value offerings and programs to KHN members and beyond, it is our hope that we can support our community.

Programs range from lectures on ancient history to interactive web conferences on the Middle East today; and from Jewish rabbinic texts to Judaism's influence on Renaissance art. We have even taken on the Big Bang!  Programs feature local experts, faculty from regional institutions, and even international commentators in Israel. The primary component of our Adult Education is our Bagel U series of classes. You can find the full lineup and more information about Bagel U HERE.

In addition to traditional lectures, we sponsor special events. These have ranged from a "Jewish Food of the Diaspora" dinner to a field trip to the Philadelphia exhibition of The Dead Sea Scrolls. And finally, we sponsor several ongoing programs:

  • Weekly Torah Study every Thursday at noon with Rabbi Diana. We meet for 90 minutes in the Social Hall. Drop in as often as you would like with a brown bag lunch. We are meeting on Zoom.
  • Shabbaton and Jewish Meditation involving yoga, meditation, chanting, and Contemplative Torah Study using the PARDES technique. Contact Rabbi Diana for more info.

We welcome your participation in any of these programs (and on the committee itself). Keep in mind that the Adult Education Committee will provide support for any appropriate program that YOU would like to make happen.
