Shul School
Education Director
Rabbi Jonah Rank
Rabbi Jonah Rank, the Director of KHN’s Shul School, is excited to share with those around him his excitement for Jewish learning.
Rabbi Jonah earned an MA in Jewish Thought and was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2015. An award-winning Jewish songwriter, he studied Music at Columbia University and Jewish Music at JTS as an undergraduate. During four summers of Rabbinical School, he created innovative Jewish educational spaces at the Berkshire Institute for Music and Art, a pluralistic Jewish program for creative high schoolers.
Rabbi Jonah taught Jewish Studies in the Solomon Schechter School of Manhattan’s Middle School before serving as the Maskil (“Teacher-of-Tradition”) at the Shaar Shalom Synagogue in Halifax, NS. When there, he facilitated adult educational offerings, led musical services, taught beney mitzvah students, and collaborated with the community’s Education Committee in rebooting the Halifax Joint Hebrew School.
Rabbi Jonah lives in Lower Makefield Township, PA, where he and his spouse, Rabbi Dr. Raysh Weiss, love to spend time with the Weiss-Rank children. Rabbi Jonah enjoys writing and editing for a variety of Jewish educational, academic, and liturgical projects—including Siddur Kanfey HaShekhinah, a forthcoming (mostly) traditional Ashkenazic Hebrew prayer book where the language referring to God is (almost) entirely feminine. Rabbi Jonah also enjoys comedy and ice cream.
