I had planned to make this Shabbat message about the joy of finishing Yom Kippur together and upcoming holidays of Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret, Simchat Torah. However, I learned last night what many Jews around the world discovered after their observance was over- that there was a deadly AntiSemetic attack in Manchester, England. We grieve the deaths of Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66 who were killed yesterday on the Holiest Day of the Jewish year. We pray for the continued healing of all that were hurt in the attack as well as the healing for all who were involved and witnessed this horrible event.
Our prayers turn towards the Jewish community of Manchester as we pray for them during this dark hour.
There is little we can do at this moment, but we can turn to ritual for comfort. While there will be no Shabbat services tonight at KHN, I invite everyone to light their Shabbat candles tonight and one additional candle in honor of the Jewish community in Manchester.
May light prevail against the darkness. May the One who makes peace above make peace for us, for all of Israel, for all who dwell on earth. And let us say, Amen.
