Dear Chevre,

As we go into this weekend of Mothers' Day, I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to mothers out there of all kinds, however you have created your family, as well as to those celebrating their mothers whether in person or more likely, virtually.

This may be a difficult Mother’s Day as many of us won’t be able to see family members in person and many of us are missing our mothers who are no longer here.

In the words of Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum,

“I am thinking of all those for whom being a mother, having a mother, is difficult or disappointing or sad. Those who can't post cute pictures of gorgeous children doing brilliant things, those whose mothers are recently gone or who have never been there. Those whose mothers died too young. Those who don't want to be mothers and are sick of hearing about it. Those gay dads - or kids of gay dads - who might not have a mother in the house. To all for whom there are twinges or spasms of pain around these things, I send you love and blessings and a big hug.”

And I will add for all those parenting,

A prayer for Parents in a Time of Corona by Rabbi Daniel Dorsch

Our God of Time and Space
Help us to make the best of our Time and Space

Help us Find the Time for Our Children
To Care for their Needs
While Guiding us how to carve out Time
To Care for our Needs

Direct us how to create Holy Spaces
When our space is at a premium
Permit us the space to be flexible parents and partners
In a world with little flexibility

Our God of Time and Space
As Your Partner in Creation
Help Us To Make Order of the Chaos of our Lives
Grant our families Health, Happiness, and Well-Being
So that we may once again call to you in a different space and time
