Dear Hevre,

We are one week away from Rosh Hashanah: we are about to welcome 5784.

How do we greet one another for the New Year?

In Yiddish we say, Gut Yontif [good yom tov], Gut Yor, a good holiday, a good year.

In Hebrew, Shanah Tovah, a good year.

Or, Shanah Tovah U’Metukah, a good and sweet year.

We can also say, L’Shanah Tovah Tikateivu, may you be inscribed for a good year. This is based on the image we have in our liturgy of the Book of Life. We want to be inscribed in the Book of Life, whether we take that to mean literally having another year of life, or whether we are praying to feel renewed and supported to write another chapter of our lives.

I was moved by these words by Rabbi Kelilah Miller:

“My bracha (blessing) for all of us as we are heading into this season is that we are able to take some time to think about our authorship of our lives. To take a breath and consider what aspects of our lives are subject to our own authorship and what aspects of our lives may not be, and to enter into the sweetness of whatever comes.” [This whole message was inspired by a beautiful video teaching of Rabbi Kelilah Miller.]

This entire Shabbat we will celebrate with Adirchai Haberman-Browns!

This evening we will gather at 7:00 pm in person at KHN or on Zoom at:

Tomorrow’s Selichot journey will be in person only at 7:15 pm.

*I’m looking for someone who is able to drive Adirchai from New Hope to the Hamilton train station in NJ this Sunday, September 10 at around 10 or 11 am. (This conflicts with Shul School and the Bagel U program so many of us already cannot do this.) If you can help in this way, please let me know ASAP at: rabbidianamiller@gmail.com Thank you.

**Welcome back to all the KHN families as we are excited to begin our Shul School this Sunday, leading into a delicious and dramatic 11:00 am Bagel U Rosh Hashanah Special with the Popkins!

We will take a break from Elul check-in tomorrow morning. See you at 9:00 am on Sunday through Thursday at (link removed for security)

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Diana
