Shhabat Message/Zoom Helper(s) Request

09/22/2023 05:50:00 PM

Sep22

Dear Hevre,

*A timely request* While we already have a Zoom helper for Kol Nidrei, we are still looking for helpers for Monday morning all the way through Yizkor.

Please let me know if you are available this Monday from 9:15 am – 1:00 pm (ish), or from 5:00 pm until the end of Neilah ASAP at rabbidianamiller@gmail.com Thank you! I will confirm after Shabbat unless I see your answer soon and Joe will send you simple instructions.

[We will ONLY be able to offer Zoom access from 5:00 pm onward on Monday if we find another person to help with Zoom. We will definitely be offering Zoom access for the morning through Yizkor services on Monday as well as on Sunday evening for Kol Nidrei.]

I want to remind you that if you are coming online to Zoom for Kol Nidrei and Yom Kippur, please make sure that your first and last name are identified or you will not be let in. Thank you for understanding as we try to keep our community safe from any hateful surprises.

Many of us wear white on Yom Kippur, both to be like the pure, transparent angels, and because wearing white approximates the simple garments we are traditionally buried in. Some wear a kittel, a traditional white robe worn at many holidays and for burial. Wearing white is therefore a stark reminder that we are mortal, an awareness which is heightened on Yom Kippur.

Additionally, we are invited to wear a tallit/tallis during the evening prayer service, something usually only done during the day other than for a shaliach tzibur, prayer leader. We do this for several reasons, one of which is that we take out Torah scrolls from the ark during the Kol Nidrei prayer to ensure that our prayers are linked to Torah. When the scrolls are removed from the ark, it is traditional to wear a tallit.

I encourage you to read more about ways to prepare for Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar.

I look forward to seeing you soon this evening for Shabbat services at 7:00 pm at KHN or on Zoom at:

Shabbat shalom and g’mar chatimah tovah, may you be sealed for a good year,

Rabbi Diana
