Dear Hevre,

It has been such a special and meaningful time with you over these last few weeks of holidays. Being with many of you in the KHN sukkah and with families in our home sukkah this week was delightful. We are heading into the last weekend of chag with Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

I had never heard of Shemini Atzeret until my twenties when the radio in NYC would announce that side of the street parking was suspended because of Shemini Atzeret! If you’d like an interesting refresher or introduction to the holiday and its connection to rain and the "intrinsic power of our natural cycles", my friend and colleague Reb Ezra Weinberg, who has been with us as a leader at KHN several times, wrote about Shemini Atzeret: https://www.jewishexponent.com/pray-for-rain/?fbclid=IwAR1lLUTGEPEWSJDmM7X_W5NOeTV00mFFPOcILosb9eAXHPWYyFAemByqybw

And if you’d like to experience the service, please come tomorrow morning to Zimra services at 10:00 am at KHN which includes Shemini Atzeret prayers, Hallel and Yizkor, or come on Zoom at:

On Sunday there will be fun activities for Simchat Torah at 10:45 am to noon (or if you are part of the Shul School from 10:00 am to noon.) I encourage everyone to join us to see the awesome sight of the Torah unrolled and get a tour of it, to dance with the Torah, and to engage in some of the scribal arts with rabbinic intern Steph, who has trained to be a soferet, a Torah scribe.
