Dec1

Dear Hevre,

While this week has brought the relief of knowing that dozens of the hostages have been reunited with their families, it is all the more heartbreaking to know that dozens are still left behind, now that the pause in fighting has ended. At this difficult time, when so many of us are struggling with the nightmare taking place, we will begin to educate ourselves more about the situation from varying perspectives.

Please save the date for Monday, December 18, from 6:30-8:30 pm for a listening session where we build resilience around difficult conversations. This session will take place both in person and on Zoom. Please let me know - if you haven’t already – if you will be attending, whether on Zoom or in person at: rabbidianamiller@gmail.com Zoom address will be sent out as we get closer to the date.

Also, please save the date for Sunday, December 17 at 10:00 am when Rabbi Mira Regev will join us on Zoom from Israel to give us a firsthand account of what it has been like supporting the families of the hostages over these last 6 weeks, as well as other ways she has been active during this time. Details and Zoom link TBA.

Here is a link to a prayer that she wrote on October 8: https://opensiddur.org/prayers/collective-welfare/trouble/war/prayer-for-the-welfare-of-the-state-of-israel-mira-regev-2023/

Next week, Reconstructing Judaism will launch their “And Now, Light, V'Achshav Or,” campaign, which will explore where Reconstructionists are finding light during this dark time. Here are ways we can celebrate small flickers of light.

Here are the programs offered:

Light the World: A Nia Dance Party for Hanukkah
Dec. 7 @ 12 p.m. EST

Holding Each Other with Gabrielle Kaplan-Mayer
Dec. 7 @ 12 p.m. EST

This evening Diane Hara will sponsor the Oneg in memory of her sister Joyce Betesh. We will also hear a letter read by Betsy Levy Paluck which was written by Dr. Nechumi Yaffe, who once offered a Bagel U class at KHN entitled, “The Changing World of Haredi Women: Pursuing Equality in an Unequal Environment.” Nechumi's beloved uncle, Rabbi Elimelech Wasserman was murdered yesterday in Jerusalem.

Tomorrow morning we will have Zimra services at 10:00 am in person or on Zoom

(LINK REMOVED FOR SECURITY)

We will have a potluck lunch after services tomorrow morning.

May we discover a strong foundation, light and miracles in this darkness.

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Diana
